We work to unlock the full potential of Light Electric Vehicles by building a strong, connected industry and by driving clear, inclusive, and technology-neutral legislation in Europe.
Our mission is to ensure that LEVs can thrive as an affordable, sustainable, and accessible mode of transport for all.
LEVA-EU was founded in Ghent, Belgium, in response to two urgent challenges: a widespread lack of awareness among policymakers about the potential of LEVs, and a growing need for sustainable mobility hindered by outdated regulation.
A diverse group of pioneers — Annick Roetynck, Bram Rotthier, Eddie Eccleston, Dennis Hu, Willow Merewood-Hu, Jan Cappelle, Han Goes, and Daan van Dieren — joined forces, united by a belief in cleaner air, inclusive mobility and sustainable transport.
Their shared vision continues to guide LEVA-EU today: unlocking the full potential of LEVs through fair regulation, strong industry support and accessible, sustainable mobility for all.

LEVs don’t fit into laws for mopeds, motorcycles, or industrial machines.
Approval systems are inappropriate, making compliance difficult, costly, or impossible.
Outdated rules halt progress, preventing great ideas from reaching the market.
Policies must evolve to support LEV adoption and innovation.
Each EU country has different rules for LEVs, creating confusion and inefficiencies.
Fragmentation blocks international expansion and limits cross-border sales.
Diverging rules complicate product development, making innovation harder.
Limited supply drives up prices, reducing accessibility and adoption.
The current legal framework was not built for LEVs. Regulations are inconsistent, fragmented, and outdated — holding back innovation and accessibility.
LEVA-EU pushes for a dedicated LEV framework that ensures technology neutrality, harmonised standards, and legal clarity across all EU countries.
We work closely with policymakers to promote inclusive, evidence-based legislation that supports a thriving and sustainable LEV market.
LEVA-EU brings together manufacturers, importers, and innovators from across Europe.
We provide regulatory expertise, market insight, and a strong community voice to help our members thrive.
By engaging with standardisation bodies such as CEN and CENELEC, we ensure the LEV industry’s perspective is reflected in the rules that shape its future.
The only organisation fully specialised in LEV regulation, legislation and advocacy.
Proven track record in influencing legislation and recognised presence in EU policy discussions
Supports innovation by preventing restrictive rules and championing technology-neutral policies
